About the Artist...

S.S.Shaikh is an internationally renowned artist specializing in Indian rural landscapes.

S.S.Shaikh took to drawing and painting in early childhood and the hobby soon turned into a passion for art that has not diminished. As a child, he was inspired by the works of known landscape artists at the time in India, Mr. S.M.Kazi and Mr G.D. Thyagaraj.
While still in school, he started painting rural landscapes that were sold by the famous art shop 'Satguru's' in Mumbai.

Today, S.S.Shaikh is one of the leading exponents of the realistic style of landscapes and his paintings are collected in India and abroad by individuals and organizations alike.

S.S.Shaikh has received numerous awards and accolades in his academic and professional career.

Awards and Recognitions

1957 - Cash prize for securing First position in art in the S.S.C. Board of Maharashtra.
1958 - Awarded Silver medal for securing First position with First class in the D.T.C examination.
1959 - Awarded a Gold medal in G.D. Art (Drawing and Painting) by the J.J. School of Art. Also awarded Miss Dolly Cursetji prize and fellowship from J.J. School of Art.
1962 - Awarded Bronze Medal by the Bombay Art Society and the late Rao Bahadur M.V. Dhurandhar cash prize for the best painting ( entitled "Sunday")
1968 - Awarded cash prize and commendation certificate by the Bombay Art Society for the landscape painting entitled "Rush for Lunch"
1984 - Awarded Ratan Kumar Jain prize by the Bombay Art Society for the water color landscape painting entitled "The Boat"
1986 - National Award for the best calendar in water color for the paintings depicting the hill stations of India (printed by Arun Brothers)
1988 - Cash prize and certificate awarded by the Art Society of Indian for an Indian style realistic landscape entitled "The Village Mother"
1997 - Honoured for excellence in the field of Art by Raza Academy Mumbai on the eve of 50 years of Indian Independence. Painting selected for exhibition organized by LalitKala Academy at Chavan Art Gallery & National Art Gallery on the occassion of 50 years of Indian independence.
2001- Chief guest at an exhibition organized by Sanskar Bharathi in Pune
2004 - Paranjape Gunijan Art award
