As a child, he was inspired by the works of known landscape artists at the time in India, Mr. S.M.Kazi and Mr G.D. Thyagaraj.<br />While still in school, he started painting rural landscapes that were sold by the famous art shop 'Satguru's' in Mumbai. </p><p>Today, S.S.Shaikh is one of the leading exponents of the realistic style of landscapes and his paintings are collected in India and abroad by individuals and organizations alike.<br /><br />S.S.Shaikh has received numerous awards and accolades in his academic and professional career. </p><span style="font-size:130%;"><strong>Awards and Recognitions</strong><br /><strong></strong></span><br /><strong>1957</strong> - Cash prize for securing First position in art in the S.S.C. Board of Maharashtra.<br /><strong>1958</strong> - Awarded Silver medal for securing First position with First class in the D.T.C examination.<br /><strong>1959</strong> - Awarded a Gold medal in G.D. Art (Drawing and Painting) by the J.J. School of Art. Also awarded <em>Miss Dolly Cursetji</em> prize and fellowship from J.J. School of Art.<br /><strong>1962</strong> - Awarded Bronze Medal by the Bombay Art Society and the late <em>Rao Bahadur M.V. Dhurandhar</em> cash prize for the best painting ( entitled "Sunday")<br /><strong>1968 </strong>- Awarded cash prize and commendation certificate by the Bombay Art Society for the landscape painting entitled "Rush for Lunch"<br /><strong>1984 </strong>- Awarded <em>Ratan Kumar Jain</em> prize by the Bombay Art Society for the water color landscape painting entitled "The Boat"<br /><strong>1986</strong> - National Award for the best calendar in water color for the paintings depicting the hill stations of India (printed by Arun Brothers)<br /><strong>1988 </strong>- Cash prize and certificate awarded by the Art Society of Indian for an Indian style realistic landscape entitled "The Village Mother"<br /><strong>1997 </strong>- Honoured for excellence in the field of Art by Raza Academy Mumbai on the eve of 50 years of Indian Independence.
